Make Sure Your Concrete is Built to Last

We follow a tried and true, no steps skipped process for every concrete project we replace or install.

Sub-grade – We begin by ensuring the sub-grade, the ground below your concrete, is uniform in soil composition and compaction. Any soft spots are removed and replaced with crushed stone. This is an important step that will help prevent slab settlement & structural cracking.

Steel Reinforcement – Upon completion of compacting the sub-grade we lay down a steel rebar reinforcement to help add more structural capacity

Concrete Mix – We use a high-end, air-entrained mix with a minimum PSI of 4000. An absolute must for the constant freeze/thaw cycles your driveway will experience in the St Louis area’s Spring and Winter seasons. In addition fiber mesh is added for strength.

Laying the Concrete – For a standard driveway with traditional traffic we lay the concrete mix at a minimum of 4″ with an additional 1″ to 2” added to the edges to strengthen the areas most susceptible to heavy loading.

Joints – We add control joints every 8-12 feet of the driveway area to allow for movements caused by temperature changes and drying shrinkage. We cut each joint 1/4″ deep for every 1″ of slab thickness. In addition we cut impression joints everywhere the driveway meets existing concrete like walkways and garage floors.

Finishing – Once the concrete has been laid we level it off with a screed board to ensure a uniform surface. Next we’ll lightly float the driveway to remove any air pockets or additional areas which may need smoothing. Finally, once the bleed water has come to the surface and evaporated, we’ll add texture to the concrete for traction.
